James Tupper papers, 1845 Nov. 18-Dec. 15.

Business letters, 18 Nov. and 15 Dec. 1845, written from Aiken, S.C., to P[eter] D[ella] Torre, Charleston, S.C. regarding settlement of the estate of J[ames] H. Poag and disposition of real and personal property. Location of real estate belonging to Poag's estate is unclear but is presumed to have been in Barnwell District, S.C., as these letters predate the 1871 formation of Aiken County. The 1840 U.S. Federal Census lists J.H. Poag as a resident of Chester District, S.C., and Tupper as a resident of Barnwell District, S.C.
